I chose Google Slides because I can usever my Google slides that we use during class and share with my students though their smart device, and it allows them to take notes and leave comments on the slide. I also like Google Slides because we can share this with each other and I can show them what they've missed or need tof improve on.

Name : Ryan Carter Course/Section EED 509
Alabama Grade Level Standards: 6th Grade
Describing the changing role of women in United States’ society and how it affected the family unit.
Identifying the impact of media, including newspapers, AM and FM radio, television, twenty-four-hour sports and news programming, talk radio, and Internet social networking, on United States’ culture since World War II.
Identify technology used during World War II.
Specific Lesson Objective:
6th grade students will be able to create an iMovie describing the important roles of women throughout WW2. Students will be able to present and explain how WW2 had a huge impact on the media from newspaper, radio, and the internet. Students will be able to describe how US military technology during WW2 has changed from the start to the end of the war.
Student Friendly Objective:
"I can statements"
I can describe the important roles of women during WW2.
I can describe the impact that WW2 had on media in the U.S.
I can explain how technology has changed from the start of WW2 to the end and even after.
Time: 1 week to complete lesson/iMovie will be 2-3 minutes
Materials/Preparations:
Computers/iPads
History Book
YouTube- Music, Videos, Pictures
History Channel
Paper/Pencils
Technology:
I will create an iMovie and present it to the class on the topic WW2; this will not only give the students a better understanding, but a visual to go by so they know exactly what I want on the topic. Students will use computers or iPads to research and create their iMovie.
Related Skills:
Student will have already discussed the chapter WW2, this will be less of a reteach and refresh on what they have already learned in the class. They will use prior knowledge as well as research on the topic.
Lesson Procedures:
Students will pick from the topics of WW2 and create an iMovie which is also known as a movie trailer. I will have already made an iMovie on the topic "WW2" and present it to the class. Students should take notes and follow along so they will understand exactly what to do. Students will then are put into groups and pick a topic in which they will complete the iMovie. Students will research the topic using history book, internet, or library books in order to get all the information needed for the project. Students will be allowed 4 days of research and on the 5th day we will present them in the class. Students will research their topic and explain to the class through an iMovie the importance of their topic during and even after WW2. Students will need at least one picture per text, it will need music in the background, and for bonus points students can add 1 video on the topic. The iMovie should be 2-3 minutes long and very creative.
Motivation/Schema/Prior Knowledge/Background Building:
Students will already know the understanding of WW2. I will introduce this lesson by designing an iMovie myself on WW2 and show it to the class so they can get that visual aide and better understanding of the lesson. I will give students prior topics that we talked about throughout the chapter. I will walk around and assist the students and direct them on how to create an iMovie. I will have our Media Specialist come into class and go over on how to create and build an iMovie.
Academic Language:
The Academic Language in which the students will be implementing during this lesson will be history, social studies, geography, language, and math.
Differentiation to Meet the Needs of all Students:
I will accommodate all students’ needs in my class such as; Special Ed will have visual aids and I will allow them to watch my iMovie over and over to get a better grasp on the topic and the required time of their iMovie will be cut in half. Gifted students will be given in depth instruction on pre and post WW2. ELL students will be able to watch the video in their native language as well as be given instructions.
Explicit Instruction:
Day 1- Students will be presented an iMovie rundown from our media specialists
Day 1- I will then present the iMovie I created.
Day 1- Students will then be paired into groups.
Day 1- I will then hand out the topic on WW2 they will be presenting.
Day 2- Day4 - They will work together by researching the topic gathering information, pictures, videos, and music from the time period. Students will be given 4 days to gather information.
Day 1- Day 4- I will walk around and do one on one with students who are struggling.
Day 4- At the end of the day students will have all information and ready to present the iMovie
Day 5 - Students will present the iMovie on my TV.
Twirl/V:
Talk- We will discuss each iMovie at the end of each presentation as a class.
Write- Students will have to turn in a 1-page report on their topic.
Investigate- Students will be involved in discussion on each topic.
Read- Students will have to read and research the text book as well as the internet.
Listen- Students will listen to everyone’s presentation.
View- Students will watch all the videos being presented.
Assessment:

Reflection:
1. Explain how the planning process for this particular lesson will contribute to the lesson’s overall success.
I feel like the planning process of this lesson of prior knowledge as well as researching the criteria will benefit the student by challenging their critical thinking skills in order to comprehend the task at hand.
2. Reflect on your next steps for growth as a teacher. What will you go forward with from this lesson? What will you do next?
I enjoy technology and hope to be able to continue these types of lessons in the future because it really engages the student from a different aspect, rather than teaching them straight out of the book. Students tend to really have fun and be creative when they are allowed ownership of their lesson and being able to put a finished product really gives them success as a student physically and emotionally.
Part 1: Quality Questioning
What’s a Quality Question?
I will give each student an equal opportunity to answer the questions out loud
Formulating and Assessing
I would use this to show me what the students are learning outside the classroom and how they use it in the classroom on a day to day basis.
Alternate Responses
I will do hand gestures such as thumbs up and thumbs down. Thumbs up they understand and thumbs down they don't understand. This will show me if the student is engaged in the lesson or not.
Wait Time
I will ask each student a question, allow them time to ask questions about the question and then allow time to answer the question. I will respect each student's answer.
Teachers Feedback
Give appropriate feedback to keep the students actively involved. Help the students answer the questions correctly by rephrasing the prompt; I would also ensure that all the correct answer are heard by everyone. I would use a lot of discussion to keep the students involved.
Quality Questioning
I use real timeboard to show what I learned throughout the chapters. I learned that you should always allow students time to come up with answer and to be respectful about each child's answer. The quality questioning also showed me how I should gain my students attention more during class discussion. The QQ shows many different types of classroom management methods that as a teacher should be followed, this has gave me a completely different outlook on ways to keep my students attention, and keep them encouraged about learning.

Instructional Model Concept Attainment
Concept Attainment is an indirect instructional strategy where students compare and contrast topics and there concepts so they are able to figure out which pertains to the topic and which does not. This strategy engages students to decide by using ideas and visuals to clarify the aspects of the concept being given. Students gain knowledge and skill by being able to determine relationships of content through examples. Students also learn how to sort out relevant information of the examples and discard the irrelevant information being given, this will only build knowledge and skill to the student once they are able to perform the task. This strategy is great for the classroom and can be taught in all subjects, the students are able to present the information they know and make connections of what they will learn using this strategy.
Steps of Concept Attainment:
1. Select and define a concept
2. Select the attributes
3. Develop positive and negative examples
4. Introduce the process to the students
5. Present the examples and list the attributes
6. Develop a concept definition
7. Give additional examples
8. Discuss the process with the class
9. Evaluate

How does instructional design impact P-12 student learning?
While reading the Implementing
a High-Impact, Critical Thinking Process in a Learner-Centered Environment by
Barbara Limbach and Wendy Waugh this goes in great detail on how to obtain
a friendly safe environment and how students can break down high order thinking
questions. This article is a 5 step
process for the process of higher level thinking skills.
Step 1: Determine Learning Outcomes and Objectives
During this process the students should have a better understanding
on how this process works. Teachers will
give learning outcomes and objectives, this process will give the students an
insight on what they should learn not what the teacher is teaching. In doing this the students have a better
understanding on what the learning outcomes of the topics being taught are in
the class and know what to expect to learn throughout the class.
Step 2: Facilitate Learning Through High-Impact Activities
Students will be able to use real life events to understand
the high impact learning, this is a great strategy for students to really get a
grasp and better understanding on the activities at hand. In these activities students will gain
knowledge and be able to apply these skills through personal experiences, this
usually engages the students and allows them to make it their own.
Step 3: Allow Frequent Opportunities to Practice before
Assessment
In this process students are held responsible and learn to
grow within the classroom. Teachers
provide instruction throughout the class and students will be able to practice
and take ownership in their learning so they can master the skills to obtain
the knowledge they will be evaluated on.
Step 4: Continue to Review, Refine, and Improve
This step reflects back and forth from teacher to students,
in this process the teacher makes sure they have covered all materials and
techniques to ensure that all students are moving in the right direction of
critical thinking. In doing this the
teacher is giving feedback to the students to make sure they all have a better
understanding on the tasks at hand to implement in their critical thinking
skills.
Step 5: Assess Learning Outcomes and Objectives
The last process is the accomplishment of the students
through the evaluation being measured by outcomes, objectives, and knowledge of
the program. This is a great tool to use
in the classroom to make sure all students are getting the instructional
feedback needed.
Summary:
After reading through the article Implementing a High-Impact, Critical Thinking Process in a
Learner-Centered Environment by Barbara Limbach and Wendy Waugh I have
learned this 5 step process is very beneficial not only to the teachers, but
the students as well. This article
breaks down safe friendly environment in the classroom, to real-life events, holding
the students accountable for learning, and positive feedback.

Module 1 Part 1 EED 509
21st Century learning is the method of teaching in and outside the classroom, 21st century learning teaches you how to personalize using smart boards, Google Docs, and Twitter are methods that 21st century leaders use to ensure that the needs of each student are met. Technology helps make learning fun; it helps catch the children's attention because of different styles and techniques that can be used in the classroom. Technology has came along way since I was even in the classroom, with today's society this is how we learn and relate to one another is through technology whether it be through social media, emails, texts, and etc. I believe in using technology because this engages the student and allows them to have hands on or getting visual images rather than being lectured to.
21st Century has many different types of learning skills such as critical thinking, creative thinking, collaborating, and communicating. In my classroom my students use communication to discuss there daily social studies problems. Critical thinking is very useful in all sorts of learning. Critical thinking helps each student build up knowledge to answer their question in their best ability with complete details and complete sentences.
One of my favorite skills that I have learned about is the cross curriculum teaching. The cross curriculum teaching is fun because of the way I can teach around the other classes, and the way I can include the other classes curriculum in my daily Social Studies lessons.
As you can see on this model these learning skills go hand in hand with one another. They each teach different learning skills that are used in the 21st Century Student Outcomes and Support Systems. The 4C's of learning and Innovation Skills which are critical thinking, communication, collaboration, and creativity. P21 is taught formally and informally across the nation. States have came together to design new assessments, standards, and professional development programs. We have professional developments called vertical alignment that is implemented in our school system where we come together as a school a couple times out of the year and meet and collaborate about our system and how we stand and what direction do we need to move in.

One of my favorite 21st Century Tool that I like and have included in my classroom is iMovie. iMovie for ISO devices (iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone) is an incredible app to use in the classroom. With an iPad even smaller iPod Touch or iPhone equipped with iMovie you can put in to students hands a mobile movie studio. I put a web link at the top of the paragraph so if you would like to go through the tutorial to see how an iMovie works or would like to implement it in your classroom I would go check it out. I have learned that this tool has been very useful in my classroom and the students really get engaged and have fun with the iMovie. iMovie is very educational because it teaches students to be proud of their hard work and time spent on the iMovie. iMovie is very self explanatory and very easy to implement in your teaching, we have done numerous videos in my classroom especially on the topics of World War 1 & World War 2. Students can share/publish finished iMovie projects as movies to your camera roll or as podcasts that are accessible on any number of platform via YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, or through Itunes. This follow the TPACK model, because it allows the students to integrate traditional and new knowledge in that they have learned in the class setting and present it through the iMovie. The pedagogy of the activity will be gone over with the students by using tutorials and teacher assistance. Being able to present an iMovie will give the teacher a better understanding of the different domains of the students knowledge on the topic or topics in which they will be presenting, this will be a great tool for both teacher and the student.

Evernote Strategy
Evernote has really been very beneficial to me especially when I learned how to use it. I'm not very tech savvy, I guess you could say. This has been a great tool for me it enables me to go back and forth from my book to my notes. Evernote allows me to collaborate all the information and keep it organized in different categories so I will be able to go through very easily and quickly and gather any information I need. I would recommend this tool to all teachers because it is very easy and simple to navigate through the categories.
